Does anybody bother to question why a “news reporter” is taking on Hollywood roles, especially as (what I’m sure is) a gross caricature of a right-wing pundit?
That said, I hope she gets well soon.

Regarding why a news reporter is taking on Hollywood roles—this was an extremely low budget, hastily slapped together film. Pressley was cheap (no disrespect to her, but she probably took a pittance compared to what a regular actress would cost) and local. Huge savings for the tiny budget.
