Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich reacted this morning to Colin Powell's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., arguing, "What that just did in one sound bite... is it eliminated the experience argument."
Powell, the former secretary of state, announced his long-awaited endorsement Sunday morning, explaining that he is backing Obama "because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of this campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities we have to take that into account as well as his substance he has both style and substance he has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."
In all-star roundtable edition of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," former presidential adviser David Gergen categorized Powell's announcement as "the most important endorsement of the campaign so far."

his rhetorical abilities
Sorry Mr Powell, you clearly put race above all else, not overly suprising given many or your more liberal moves over the years.. but I’ll take REAL ABILITIES and ACCOMPLISHMENTS over RHETORICAL ABILITIES anyday.
Knowledge of foreign and domestic policy. Gravitas. Palin appears to display only a cliff-notes version (at best) of world affairs.
She, unfortunately, displays anti-gravitas. Now that could be a generational thing, but it’s very annoying and leads one to question her seriousness & sincerity. Why go on SNL and be part of a rap skit? Didn’t she know doing so demeans her and the position she’s running for? IMO it shows poor judgment.
I never drank the McCain Kool-Aid, sorry.
Some of us remember McCain's role in immigration 'reform', among other affronts to conservatism and the country.
Hear,hear.
Newt missed something as he was wandering about looking for his pants.
Colin Powell is so 1990’s
The Atlanta Journal’s suggesting that Newt is trying to set himself up as heir apparent to the RNC chairmanship. The face of the GOP-in-exile after Obama’s coronation, if you will. “...who will pick up the pieces of what could be the most shattering election in decades.”
We had a candidate available with awesome private sector experience. His name is Mitt Romney. Now you’re trying to convince me that some lady who ran a little local fishing business with her husband is qualified because she has “private sector experience”. Maybe you can’t see what a pathetic joke that is, but most of the country can, and Obama is laughing all the way to the White House. Our nation could ill afford this sort of idiotic political blunder at this critical point in our history.
I think you are very wrong. She went right into the enemy camp and took their space. She presented herself to millions of people who probably have never seen her outside of liberally editted sound bytes. And she took away one week of effective and free campaigning Obama gets via SNL.
I would agree were it not for Powell’s business connections now which stand to do far better under Obama than McCain. It is about the money, AIT, and nothing more. He decided on self interest alone. This was discussed on this board for several days.

Newt, just as some Freepers, are still dreaming of him running for a president as a Prince Charming to save the country. That can only happens when the country is in its worst situation. He prays hard —again, just like many Freepers do— that 0bama is elected and bring the country into deep crisis longing for another savior.
Looks like we're on our own.
Newt fails to comment on the incongruity of Powell tap dancing past Obama’s inexperience by praising all the rhetorical. crowd pleasing, “transformational” and popular qualities of Obama ...... that are massively possessed by Sarah Palin
while gratuitously dissing John McCain for choosing “inexperienced” Palin for VP
Newt, Powell’s decision is about race. Apparently for most black voters, it may always be. Powell has now sucked up to the blacks who dissed him as Bush’s house servant. How the proud are fallen.
There is no other reason I don't care what excuses he makes.
Thank you, sir!
“Didnt she know doing so demeans her and the position shes running for? IMO it shows poor judgment.
“
Like when Clinton did it?
Looks like we’re on our own.
