McCain calls Joe the Plumber, invites him on the trail

MELBOURNE, Florida (CNN)- At a rally in Melbourne, Florida Friday evening, Senator McCain revealed he had called Joe Wurzelbacher.

“I talked to him this morning for the first time ever,” said McCain. “And I want to tell you his sprits are good and he’s a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money.” McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.

The night before he called, he appealed to Joe on CBS's “Late Night with David Letterman.” “Joe, if you’re watching, I’m sorry,” he said into the camera.

Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohio’s most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops.

McCain has a rally in that state on Sunday but Buchanan said she didn’t know whether Murzelbacher would appear.

When asked why he called Joe, Buchanan said, “I think he just wanted to reach out to him.”

Whether Joe is there in person or not, he is certainly a star at McCain events. McCain urged others at the rally to contact Joe and share their support. “Send Joe an email and tell him you are with him, ok,” said McCain.

And the crowd definitely seemed to be full of Joe supporters as well as John supporters, with people at the Melbourne rally were wearing tee shirts with a picture of a name tag on them that said, “My name is … Joe the Plumber” and holding signs about Joe like one on stage that said, “Joe’s dough, not Obama’s.”

"Joe the Plumber" will have a media shelf life, after they try to destroy him and he comes back (which he has already) of about TWO WEEKS more.

Just perfect timing in advance of the election, peaking on election day.

With this narrative visual, a crisis on Korean Peninsula possibly developing this morning as we speak, and everything shifts off game for Obama and on to McCain. Economy, people dont want to be taxed to death. Foreign Policy/Security, people dont want an amateur at the wheel. Throw in a few high profile ACORN indictments, and there you have it. All of this might be a godsend.

And let Joe talk about how he is pissed off about ILLEGAL ALIENS (which he has done in two interviews already I have seen), since none of the top four office seekers will make a PEEP about it, and you have ME aboard.

To me, inviting Joe to the campaign trail is taking it too far, and would turn it into a joke. Joe will be on TV some more, probably helpful, and McCain can mention this on and on. But someone on Fox said something I agree with, that McCain should stay more on Obama’s “spread the wealth around” comment rather than constantly referring to Joe.

It’s a fine line and McCain showed with his campaign suspension and talk of postponing the first debate that he can get way over the fine line.

God willing John McCain and Sarah Palin can pull this off and if they do that verse of scripture can best sum up the election

Incredible

Amen, if somehow we can find a clever way to take the word rich back the debate will be won

Who cares what the media thinks. When the debate was about national security the Media said McCain didn’t want to talk about the economy and was scared. Then McCain brought up the shady associations of Obama, again the media said it was a diversion and no one cared. Now that McCain is talking about t he economy and the fundamental disdain for socialism (which Obama’s policies are) the media says this is a diversion away from t he REAL economy (I suppose more talk about world wide economic disaster is all the MSM wants to talk about because it favors radical socialist ideas...the way they portray the debate). Don’t let the media run this campaign, it is becoming a campaign of the people

“Who cares what the media thinks.”

I don’t, but unfortunately they do still influence some portion of the voting public. The Joe the Plumber thing just seems like a great story that can be overdone, and I mean overdone in the public’s eye, not the media’s.

You can’t overdue the idea of real America. Joe the Plumber is “We the people”. The thing that I would suggest (and if you check my historical postings you can get more detail) is that Joe the plumber has to be America everybody. Everyone is Joe the plumber, he is the engineer, the mother, the student the CEO. Americans dream big and Obama wants to kills the dream, “How many plumbers do you know who make a quarter of a million dollars”. It’s almost Obama’s way of saying, dream on it will never happen.
I agree with you it can’t just be Joe the plumber if the connection is not explicitly made that Joe the Plumber is We the People. If the connection is made every argument can be made from the basis that Joe the plumber (everyday Americans) need x, y and z

I wonder if Joe is going to be at the McCain Toldeo rally tomorrow: Sunday October 19th. No news of it here, but wouldn’t that be great?

“You can’t overdue the idea of real America.”

Matter of opinion, and that depends on how it’s done. I think the Joe the Plumber reference can be overdone, and bringing him to the campaign trail could be the thing that puts it over the line.

He’s getting plenty of exposure as it is.

Maybe you’re right that he shouldn’t be on the campaign trail. I don’t think one appearance in Ohio (where he lives) will be all that devastating though

And, an important point, it’s not how your or I perceive this, but how the voters who might still change their minds perceive it. And there’s probably no way to be sure about that.

The left know it is what Obama said, not what Joe did..

Maybe this is God's way of showing us what Obama will do if elected..

I wonder if Obama will come after us on Free Republic?

I think the Joe the Plumber reference can be overdone,

You forget that we who post here are a separate species from the sheeple. We immerse ourselves in this. They do not. They require repeated mentions of any message for it to begin to get a hold in their consciousness.

Didn't Barack's own mother go by her middle name? Her legal name is Stanley Ann Dunham/Obama/Soetro. She went by Ann.

Great point! Hope someone picks this up and gets it out there. LOL

Be sure to bring it up whenever Joe the Plumber is attacked for using his middle name.

Also, refer to "Bill Ayer's friend, Barack" when talking about Obama.
