McCarthy had nothing to do with the hearings about communist activities in Hollywood.

He was a senator and his hearings were called the Army-McCarthy hearings.

The Hollywood people were referenced in the House Un-American Committee hearings, known as HUAC.

I'm quite familiar with the HUAC episode, and also quite familiar with McCarthy's Wheeling speech. Likewise, pegging Hollywood's elite as communists was accurate (check Ann Coulter's "McCarthy was Right" article).
