Northland Couple Warns of Political Credit Card Fraud

NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. -- A North Kansas City couple has been left scratching their heads after they became the victims of a political scam.

Steve and Rachel Larman say a strange credit card charge appeared on their statement this month -- a $2300 donation to Barack Obama's presidential campaign. The Larman's say they don't want this to be about their political affiliation, but they say they're not about to give the Obama campaign any help from their pocketbook.

They said they notified Chase, their credit card bank, to report the fraud.

"(They) said that they had seen-they were familiar with this," said Steve Larman. "It was fraud, they believe through telemarketing but they were going to be doing some more investigations."

The Larman's don't want their politics to enter into what is essentially just a fraudulent charge. But they say that the charge involves the Obama campaign adds insult to injury for the registered Republicans.

"They (Chase) kept on asking me 'are you sure you wouldnt have gone to a site in support of Obama'," said Rachel Larman. "And I repeatedly said 'Im voting for McCain - I would not be going to an Obama site'."

Chase dropped the charge from the Larman's card. The couple is thankful thay they caught the charge on the card, but worried that others may not see that type of fraud on their own credit cards before it's too late.

"You always get emails saying be on the lookout," said Rachel. "So I just wanted to get the word out, that there's someone out there perpetrating this against people, and to pay attention."

The Obama campaign said they were aware of the Larman's story, but did not have any comment.

Obama campaign response: “We already spent that money, on a person who had less money than you, so, too bad.”

Chase dropped the charge... but 0bama still got the money!

What a beautiful scam, probably linked to ACORN. Put a bunch of fraudulent charges on stolen credit card numbers to load up the campaign coffers, then let the credit card companies eat the costs.

I think this article should be posted far and wide with instructions for people to check their credit card statements. It’s hard to believe this would be an isolated incident, especially with all the other examples of massive fraud going on.

What if someone at the credit card company itself was perpetrating this scam?

Put the bill on customer’s credit cards.....
customer calls.......
charge comes off.......
Obama still gets his money.

This is bs that Obama campaign doesn’t have to pay it back.

Wow,.......a charge to “give anything” showed up on my wife’s card in our last bill. While we gave once to McCain and once to a 527, those were both to different orgs. I was going to check this out yeterday but got too busy.

Probably a mistake made by Vera Baker and Marc Merlini
Financing and Treasury Director,Paris Area, France in their Obama money laundering scheme in the Caribean.

Keep up the excellent detective work folks. This is unfolding into an excellent mystery novel about purchasing the US Presidency with foreign money.

That's exactly what I'm suggesting. And just think who ultimately will pay for it in the long run, consumers and or taxpayers.

Good loan sharks know when not to get too greedy. Had they dinged a $25 donation to 92 customers, chances are good that they never would've been caught.

"Chase dropped the charge... but 0bama still got the money!"

That's not how it works and the money is immediately pulled back from the "merchant" in a hold status while the charges are investigated. At the end of the investigation, 99% of such charges are taken away from whomever collected the money because 99% of such charges are in fact fraudulent.

I run several online stores and believe me, the credit card companies most certainly do NOT absorb this loss but pass it on to the merchant.

Couple this news with the news that ACORN was hiring felons who had been cnvicted of identity theft. Wonder if we will hear this story anywhere in the MSM?
