MARSHALL, Minn. — One mother said she missed the sound of her little girl playing piano.
Another said her surviving daughters used to play "wedding" with their dolls; now they play "funeral."
Both said the Feb. 19 school bus crash that killed four children and injured 16 others near Cottonwood also killed an innocence that will never return.
"This crime demands justice," said Rita Javens, mother of Hunter and Jesse, two brothers who died in the southwestern Minnesota collision.
The community got some measure of justice Wednesday morning, when Olga Franco del Cid was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison during a hearing in the Lyon County Courthouse.
Franco, 24, was convicted in August of four counts of criminal vehicular homicide and 17 counts of criminal vehicular injury in the crash that killed 9-year-old Hunter and 13-year-old Jesse Javens, Emilee Olson, 9, and Reed Stevens, 12.
To the end, the illegal immigrant from Guatemala claimed her boyfriend was driving the minivan that ran a stop sign and broadsided the Lakeview School District bus on Minnesota 23. The boyfriend, Francisco Sangabriel-Mendoza, a 29-year-old illegal immigrant, has since fled to his native Mexico, authorities say.
Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes had asked District Judge David W. Peterson for the maximum sentence of 21 years allowed under state sentencing guidelines.

That’s the only way I could see that she was thrown into the driver’s seat. So where did the “driver” end up?

That crash happend about two days before Daniel Turner, 14, was run over and dragged under a car driven by illegal alien, Sergio Onofre, in Michigan. It was Onofre’s second DWI.
If there were any justice on this Earth, there would be some VERY high ranking politicians serving their sentences right beside her, for importing and harboring this scum into our country.
The sentence is not nearly long enough, but at least she will do serious time.
I wonder how the idiot cop who had previously caught her running a stop sign while driving without a license, and drove her home, and the idiot judge who fined her $182 and let her go, instead of jailing her and referring her to ICE for deportation, sleep at night.
Their actions contributed to the deaths of 4 innocent children.
More Americans die from illegal aliens than die in Iraq, so where is the outrage? I’ve heard numbers as high as 40,000 a year from murder and drunk drivers.
