Philly sports phans - yikes. I recall being with my 5 year old son during Super Bowl week in Jax FL. We were walking near the waterfront (on the opposite side of the river from the stadium) when a booze cruise of Eagles phans went buy. Of course, we were wearing Pats Jerseys. UGLY. Cups raining down at us, middle fingers, jeers, boos. I love good natured ribbing at tailgates, etc. This was frightening.

Philly sport fans get a bad rap because of the jerks like you encountered in Jacksonville. About 60% of the Philly sport fans are from the suburbs and passionately but respectfully support the teams. The other 40% are creeps and unfortunately act and speak louder than the majority.
As for Palin at the Flyers game: most fans cheered but the minority that booed were the usual over the top creeps.
