Altocumulus standing lenticular; caused by orographic features and high winds aloft. In USAF Weather we had to issue special information on them for the flyboys.

That lenticular cloud hung over Hilo the better part of a day. As I understand there's an up draft in it's center but while we were watching it, a small plane flew beneath the opening checking it out. I timed it's traverse (from a distance of about 4 miles) at 15 seconds. It was huge.
It wasn't the only lenticular cloud that day, there were three other smaller ones over Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Most people didn't notice them since the big one was the center of attention.
