The problem is the difference in the way Americans and Muslim cultures view religion and how they define who is and who isn’t a Muslim. In western countries, we make individual decisions about religion. Muslim countries do not allow for that. You inherit the religion of your father. Period. Individual decisions apart from that is not valid and is not recognized. Therefore, Obama is seen as a Muslim by Muslims.

The problem, at least as I see it, is not whether Obama is a Muslim or Christian by American standards. He says he is a Christian and I accept that. (Yes, I know that there could be debates about his beliefs or lack of them, but that’s another story.) But I see it as a potentially real problem that Muslims see Obama as one of their own, given their beliefs about apostates and Obama’s lack of character and willingness to be all things to all people. That’s where the problem lies.
