I'm sure you realize that most people don't remember the incident.
Came home in crates... boxes. Sigh.
I do.
After the crew was released without the plane, I was working mid-shift Gulf of Mexico traffic at JAX center. An Air China 747 cargo flight (unscheduled at the time, kinda rare to see them) SEA-MIA checked on..."JAX, Dragonair 442 with you at 410."
I replied "Dragonair 442 roger, we want our airplane back."
Silence for a while, then "Say again, JAX?"
"Dragonair 442 roger, we want our damned airplane back."
Some more silence, then "Oh no, JAX, we're the GOOD China - Taiwan."
"Well, then, welcome aboard - cleared direct MIA."
We all shared some comments, crew turned out to be Yanks flying for Air China on contract, so I called 'em Flying Tiger 442 for rest of conversation.
