Not to be nitpicky, FRiend, you were probably thinking of the SA (SturmAbteilung). Commonly remembered as the Brownshirts or Storm Troopers. Common thugs and criminals with pretty uniforms.

Not really. There were no armored fighting vehicles in the Tables of Organization and Equipment of the SA, in its rather brief existence. The Waffen SS, on the other hand, did have such.

No, the Waffen SS was actually a military unit that conducted itself honorably.

They weren't a military branch per se, but essentially a private militia in service to the Nazi party. As to conducting themselves *honorably*? There's a lot of room for debate there.

My point stands. What Obama is describing is essentially the rebirth of the SS, a private militia, in service to a political party, with access to heavy weapons of war. Not a good idea, to any rational person...
