When Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., the charismatic, messianic Magic, um, Mulatto, was knocking about the slums of New York and Chicago twenty-some years ago, he managed to get himself noticed, and was dressed up in a suit and presented to Harvard Law School with several “letters of recommendation”, which apparently worked well for opening doors.

Amazing what having a sponsor with good connections will do for a career.

This may have been a much longer-term project than anyone of us gentiles have yet imagined.

but, Obama first started out in 1979 at Occidental College in Los Angeles. The cost of an education at Occidental:

Obama went to Occidental for two years and then transferred to Columbia University in New York City before graduating in 1983. The cost of an education at Columbia:

• Books and Supplies $1,000
• Other Expenses $1,060

Obama did not graduate from Harvard until 1991 - twelve years after starting his college education. On the other hand, the story in the news has been about Sarah Palin's college education. She first enrolled in college in 1982 and graduated for the University of Idaho in 1987 - only five years later, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications & Journalism and a minor in Political Science.

We know that Sarah Palin attended state schools with much lower costs than Barack Obama. We also know that she earned scholarships to pay for most of her education costs. What we don't know is how Barack Obama paid for his expensive education. The costs that I listed above do not even include the costs of Harvard.

Fact is that Obama, over on his mother's side of the family, has quite an interesting genealogy. Just about everybody he's related to (around here) can get admitted to both Columbia and Harvard as a spcial legacy.

That doesn't mean they'll pay your way, but folks will lend you money for getting admitted there ~

At the same time a non-competitive admission to any school is no guarantee you'll be kept around if you fail your classes. Apparantly Obama was a decent student, studied hard, kept within standards, and stayed in college and later lawschool for the required period of time and met the requirements of specific degrees.

I suspect Obama simply doesn't wish to let anyone know that he was admitted non-competitively to two Ivy League schools for no more reason than having the right ancestors. He'd lose his street cred Fur Shur.
