Are they behind by a field goal or touchdown?
More than that. The current electoral map has eight states in contention; McCain has to run the board, Obama just needs any one of them.
They are behind by 7 points. A field goal won't win it. A touchdown will only tie it (and then only if they kick the extra point too). Unfortunately, they can't count on overtime because Obama has already won the toss and will receive the ball in overtime (thanks to the mainstream media). So McCain and Palin are going to have to go for the two-point conversion after the touchdown.
It can be done however. The Obama defensive line is very weak. They are vulnerable. McCain/Palin don't need to throw any hail Marys. They can play smashmouth football and run the ball the rest of the day. All McCain has to do is hand off the ball to Palin and let her run down the middle. 7 yards here. 8 yards there. She'll be in the end zone five or six plays later. Then on the two-point conversion, hand the ball to Palin and watch her take it to the end zone again.
OK, enough of the football analogies. But you get the point. It's time to take the offensive and ram it down their throats. We don't need a "nice-guy" Dole/Kemp redux. When Republicans are the nice guys - they lose. Every time.
