Walking dog while armed (open carry)

While walking the dog this morning, side arm open carry, I noticed a car tracking me and the man driving the car was on a cell phone looking all upset. I tried not to make eye contact with the man and just kept walking.

I turned into the floodway park and let the dog run free for about ten minutes and noticed the car was still there and the man was still on the phone. I came out of the floodway and on the way back to the street I noticed two Gilbert policemen--one a supervisor, and Concerned Citizen (Out of Towner by his license plate-NJ) looking at me. Damn I must be good looking-or maybe it was the dog. As I hit the sidewalk I said "good morning" generically and kept walking towards the house. The two policemen said Good Morning and Out of Towner-Concerned Citizen mentioned that we people were nuts. About 5/10 minutes later the Lieutenant came by the house to make sure I wasn't uspset or bothered by this. Very polite young man.

Perhaps people in New Jersey don't walk their dogs.

I would presume that the 2nd Amendment implies a universal, guaranteed right to carry a weapon in the open. Hopefully the NRA and other pro-freedom groups will take on the states that illegally infringe on this right.

Did you miss the memo?

Liberals from the Northeast corridor from DC to Boston think they run the world and only what they think is worthy.

Arizona is flyover country, you should have know better than to worry one of the superior ones : )

I thought people in other states might like to see how an open carry incident caused by a nervous nellie from out of state was handled here.

I live in PA and we have both open carry {no permit required} and concealed carry {permit required} and I have a permit. It makes you wonder about how dumb our gun carry laws are but that's a whole different story.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were out and I had a snub nose 38, holstered and on my belt in the small of my back {under a jacket so it was suppossed to be concealed}.

I bent over and the jacket rode up and the gun was exposed for about a second or two, but it was enough time was an hysterical old woman to scream at the top of her lungs, "OMG, he has a gun".

There was a police officer near and he came over, asked if I had a concealed gun and did I have my permit with me which I did.

There was no real problem, but some people get freaked out when they see a gun with a regular citizen, but the cop had a pistol on his hip and that caused the old woman no particular angst.

Go figure.

Actually we in NJ keep all of our dog crap in the statehouse in Trenton where it belongs. But every once in a great while we elect a Republican instead.

Open carry is also the law in Kentucky. I haven’t strapped a gun on yet, but I’m quite certain that the leftists—thankfully not an overwhelming number here—would experience palpitations while most people would have very little to say.

That's why my blog is called:

Radio Free NJ

It's assumed here that the only right you have are those that the government gives you.

"OMG, he has a gun".

Obviously, your bling, baggy pants, backwards hat and grill work (gold on teeth) gave you away as someone who was about to commit a felony : ^ )

“How did the cop know where you lived? You said he came by the house . . .”

Well, this fellow was within walking distance of his house, so maybe they just saw where he went.

Or, more likely, they knew him because this was his neighborhood. It was not that long ago that all the people in a neighborhood knew the local cop on the beat.

Never been quail hunting?

I don’t blame the New Jerseyan for being upset, and it’s not clear to me why the rest of you criticize him. How was he supposed to know that a dog had the proper training to know how to handle a gun responsibly?! How did he know the dog was even old enough to carry a gun (is it 18 in your state?) Not many dogs even get to be 18!

We can always use good people in Arizona. We get a lot of refugees from California.

Yes I am aware of long guns. Its really not safe to go on a nice ‘brisk’ walk with a dog on a leash and a shotgun.

Some might call it hunting.
