This is nothing new. The Army has always been available to do domestic operations in support of law enforcement. They can't, absent explicit Congressional authorization, engage in direct law-enforcement, but they aren't obligated to stay in the gates in a civil emergency.

In this case we hope they aren’t needed, but this election is volatile, and if you look at hate and spewing snakes in left media who have planted seeds of dissension for past several years anything is possible.
