WASHINGTON (AFP) US President George W. Bush on Friday signed a mammoth economic rescue package aimed at saving troubled US banks and easing a credit crunch that he warned could spell disaster for the US public.
After campaigning for the bailout for two weeks and courting reluctant lawmakers in person and by telephone, Bush signed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 before leaving Washington for the weekend.

What is that sign in the background saying “Marshall Law” ? /sarc
Pst. The Constitution is designed to actively limit the scope and abilities of the government. Claiming that I need to find a passage that says Congress CAN (as opposed to CANNOT) is a misrepresentation of the nature of the document. Buddy, I hate this bailout bill too (and both my crap Senators voted for it, thankfully my Rep did not and he will receive my vote this year) but there’s nothing unconstitutional about it.
BDS.
I am not going to take that bet, even at those stakes.
*** MARK ***
Marking this post. Let's visit again in exactly one month and see if you still have the same opinion.
Jimmy Carter did not have the Socialist Stones to demand the Tax Payers fork over a Trillion Dollars to Bail Out his Failed Economy.
That’s adorable. You still think that the Constitution is in effect!
With apologies for messing with your words. Just couldn't resist...
Yeah, and after all of the “experts” said the market would tank if we didn’t get this horrible bill.
And didn’t T Boone Pickens say a month or so ago that oil would never again go below $100?
If these are the experts, then God help us.
You should get a job as a Stand-Up Comedian!
That is the funniest thing I have ever read!
Didn't you like the half tank of gas your car got with your stimulus check this spring? Or, did that money go to buy a loaf of bread, some bologna, a can of pork n' beans, and a carton of milk to wash it down?
Just heard he's now off to "Prairie Chapel Ranch" to enjoy the weekend. While I don't begrudge him his perks, his quick exodus from town and that sarcastic smirk he wore while signing the bill add insult to this injury.
Henry Paulson, is that you?
And have cleaned the Republicans' clocks.
Typical stupid question from the Obama agitprop. The real question folks should be asking—OF THEIR LEGISLATORS IN BOTH PARTIES—is why did this robbery even try to include changes to the legislative sludge which caused this financial failure? But then I wouldn’t expect a rabble rouser like you to actually address the real issues, just seek to stir the anger and hate pot you dwell upon. [That’s your twister cue to play misdirection and try to accuse me of ignoring your ‘oh so cogent posts’. Sheesh, it will be so nice when the political season is over and you Obamessiah soldiers slither back under your rocks so we don’t have to tolerate your lies and hatemongering. Will there be enough Pepto to ease your bile, then?]
The bill that failed Monday was better than this one. Be careful what you ask for, you may get it.
Ours went to pay our property tax.
"Hi ya George...just the got word. Your legacy chapter is gonna follow mine in the book of worst presidents"
Well, I think we should now demand that Congress bail us out next for the 401(k) and IRA losses we have experienced, and which can be expected to continue. After all, if you can bail out Wall Street then the voters should also be made whole. It’s the least our corrupt political elite can do...
