Dick Morris Slaps Down Alan Colmes for 'Spewing the Talking Points' About Palin Debate Performance
NewsBusters ^ | October 3, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

Your humble correspondent, as diligent as ever, carefully checked out much of the post-debate analysis and spin last evening. Perhaps the highlight of all such activity, chock full of drama, was this heated exchange between Dick Morris and Alan Colmes on FOX News. The first part of this video shows Morris giving effusive praise of Sarah Palin's performance in last night's debate. The sparks begin to fly soon after the two-minute mark when Colmes cuts in to robotically attempt to run through his list of obvious talking points which Morris took great offense to (emphasis mine):

Hannity is different on his TV show than he is on the radio. I think on radio he has less restrictions on his views. He can express what he wants and there aren't any interruptions.

I like Sean Hannity!

I saw it last night. I think if Dick had been in the same room with Alan, he would have knocked him upside the head.

Colmes needs a clause in his contract providing for a bonus when he takes a shot like that. Between Newt, Rudy and Dick Morris, the poor guy is a punching bag!

It's just the opposite of the 3 libs beating on the lone conservative you see on the Sunday morning talkers and the View. It's nice for a change.

Colmes repeatedly puts himself into the position of being made to look like the fool he is. You’d think he’d learn. He must be a masochist.

Morris took it personally that he was discussing his perspective and Alan was doing his usual routine of interrupting with the party line.

Since Morris could see there was no intellectual honesty, he ripped the guy to shreds. His point being, if you want to argue with me, at least have the courtesy to make your own arguments rather than

I know Dick Morris.

He’s actually a likeable, witty and erudite person, in person.

There was something in the water at Fox last night—Morris vs Colmes and O’Reilly vs Franks. Wow.

Colmes contributes nothing to that show. When Estrich was filling in for a few days, the whole show got a huge lift. She did actual interviews, from her point of view, and it was stimulating, not like Colmes who’s like a zombie reciting dry, slanted statistics, which always dumbs things down.

Middle class is just a phrase to the democrats, they don’t know who those folks are.

Maybe that is so. It just looks so lightweight to me. I like the guests they have on occassionally, but they seem to be playing grown up.

How he ever got a job on camera is beyond me.

His job is to read the dem talking points and then get slapped down for it. He does this very well.

No, Holmes [sic] is a Democrat. Regardless of intelligence, Democrats have a bizarre notion of what constitutes the middle class. I think from observation they use ‘middle class’ to mean ‘between the Federal poverty line and the median earnings of a UAW member’. Anyone who makes more than that is ‘rich’.

I may have the upper bound wrong, it might be the median earnings of a UAW member plus the median earnings of an elementary school teacher. One thing is clear though, their notion of economic class is not elastic with family size: it doesn’t matter how many kids you have, if you and your wife make $150,500 in gross adjusted income, you have to pay the AMT!

Combs reminds me of that smart aleck kid that all of us had in our 4th grade class, who would make faces at you when you talked, and always had the last word, when you did the, “Did so”.....”Did not” back and forth. THe one who you chased home after class, but never caught because he always managed to get into his house and lock the door, giving you the horsey face out the window.

On the other hand, I remember one day I chased him home, and his Mom had the door locked.

OHe mused out loud on H&C if Trig’s Down Syndome may nat have been caused by the plane trip the Gov took just before he was born. He’s an idiot. A malicious, snke in the grass idiot.

The only thing is, that Colmes does this night in and night out. He exasperates the guests. When people like Ann C are on there, he hits them with some question from left field, knowing that the person is unprepaired for it.

It’s like he’s up there to irritate the sh*t out of us, and he knows it. He alway gets the last word in, and you can hear the crew in the background laughing...Did you hear his, “Better sign up for some anger management, Dick.” ?

It’s clear they don’t know any of us. Biden seems to think we’ve been abolished:

In the context of discussing what he would do if he needed to assume the Presidency, he actually said

“. . .I would carry out Barack Obama’s policy, his policies of reinstating the middle class,. . .”

“Reinstating”????!

Instead of haw-haw-ing about his correct use of the word Bosniac, FReepers should be sneering at his notion that the middle class needs to be ‘reinstated’.

(And yes, I checked the official transcript.)

"...More importantly, simply be honest. If Palin did well, and you think so, say it..."

That's not what Fox hired Colmes to do. Alan is Hannity's (and any of SH's cohorts) pinata.

Oh, he is good at it!
