Ifill Must be Removed (Jed Babbin)
Human Events ^ | 1 October 2008 | Jed Babbin

Posted on 10/01/2008 10:44:39 AM PDT by SE Mom

Whether or not this proves to be the “Age of Obama,” no one who has a financial interest in the outcome of the election -- as does PBS’ Gwen Ifill -- should be permitted to moderate any debate in the campaign season.

Ifill, who is scheduled to moderate the important debate tomorrow night between Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Joe Biden, has a conflict of interest that, by even the most rudimentary ethical standards of journalism, must preclude her from moderating or even reporting on the debate.

Ifill is the author of “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama," a new book scheduled for release on Inauguration Day. Its Amazon.com promotional statement says, “In 'The Breakthrough,' veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.”

We are used to liberal bias in the media, and it’s questionable if PBS can even find among its journalists someone who approaches an unbiased point of view. Nevertheless, Ifill has a financial interest in the outcome of the election. If Obama loses, her book will be DOA. If Obama wins, she wins greater book sales and thus far greater income from royalties. This, by any standard, is a disqualifying conflict of interest.

Ifill must be removed from the moderator’s slot -- today -- and replaced by someone who at the very least does not have a financial interest in the outcome of tomorrow night’s debate.

What's a guy to think?

Weak and stupid IMO.

OTOH BamBam is weak, stupid, and deeply evil and would destroy my country. I'll still vote Palin which unfortunately includes McCain, but it's getting harder by the day and his stand on the Bail-Out could destroy my country just as much as BamBam... (considering)

How can surrogates name names

Its up to surrogates to hoot and holler about Dodd, Frank and Ifell.
McCain needs to be slightly above it.
However, after the bail out passes I think McCain may get into it with the Dems and Bama

The Biden and Obama peeps are reading and reviewing Ifill's questions as I type this.

Which is why she needs to be removed at the last minute and a NEUTRAL moderator brought in with his/her own brand new questions.

” I am just damn tired of McCain turning the other cheek! “

I cannot tell you the amount of calls and
e mails I have gotten the last 24 hrs from apoplectic friends and family about this
turn the other cheek crap.
A couple of the military mothers have been close to tears.
Obama is so flawed and so horrendous , the ads should be writing themselves.
It’s well past time for both McCain and also Palin to cut the happy go lucky, Boy Scout, my good friend garbage.
Too much is at stake-take..off..the..gloves !!

I think Sarah could make this an excellent segway into the conflicts of interest that have gotten us into this bail out mess. It could clearly position her and McCain as the maverick outsiders.

Is anyone privy to the requirements and prerequisites of a moderator of the presidential debates? Is there an official description of the requirements and rules for moderators?

Leave her. Before she utters the first word most viewers will immediately realize that she is totally in the tank for Obama.

Keep wondering if McCain is pulling a ‘rope-a-dope’ plan against Obama... Maybe its all part of a brilliant plan by Schmidt to get one more late inning rally to put Mac and Sarah over the top in Nov. Maybe...just maybe!

“his stand on the Bail-Out could destroy my country just as much as BamBam... (considering) “

IMHO, the bailout will cost $100 billion or so at the end of the day... 4 years of Obama means $10 TRILLION spent on his watch.

So, going by the numbers, an Obama presidency will be a 100X factor more significant than the bailout.

THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO FEAR IS OBAMA HIMSELF

IMHO, the bailout will cost $100 billion or so at the end of the day...

And then again the next day and the next without end. The perps themselves have called for $700 billion in two tranches and admitted it could go to a trillion.

Based on the ridiculous crap they threw in on the Dodd authored Senate version (a little something for a toy company, a little something for American Samoa businesses one of which is a Pelosi tuna co. investment, on and on and on), there will be an ongoing "need" creating a further "emergency" requiring other "rescues"...

I don't doubt your estimate of 10 trillion under Obama although you may be low, I'm just saying we're going to get ruined either way because if McCain bought into this one, he'll probably buy into the next several as well.

OTOH I am going to vote for Palin and hope for the best because there is no way Obama will be anything but the death of my country and probably quite a few of us. He is a fascist thug empty suit front man for very serious fascist thugs who know what they want and how to do it. IMO.

No, it is stated as a number for the whole cost. It’s like this: Fed Govt buys $700 billion in assets, holds and resells later. The actual cost depends on the cash flows and resale value. The assets are already written down, so will have face value of $2 trillion.

Then consider this:

Theres more than money at stake: SCOTUS judges. For the Judges!

Writing a book about Ubama that could make her a quarter of a million dollars if he's elected??

You go, girl!!! :-)

No, I mean it, really. GO.

Recuse yourself from moderating this debate, or you could find yourself remembered in history as something much less than you want to be remembered for!
