McCain is throwing this away intentionally. He doesn’t want to be President. He wants Democrats to like him. That has always been his problem.

And I have to believe that the Dems will like him for failing to fight for his election and falling on his "bipartisan" sword.

McCain and his campaign reminds me a lot of Bush in 1992. Bush was sort of muddling along, and it wasn't until late into the campaign that he started to show some fire. By then, Clinton (and Perot) had pretty much dictated the terms of the campaign, and Bush had been saddled with a lot of negative press that he just couldn't overcome. I also sensed that Bush wasn't all that fired up about being POTUS for four more years.
