True,
but GOP turnout, the American version of “shy Tory Syndrome,” is always slightly underestimated, too. I’ve heard it called the ‘Rural Problem.”
No doubt McCain has his work cut out for him, but we always knew the only way to win in 2008 was to get non-GOP loyalists on board. McCain’s strength with Undecideds and Suburbans, as well as Palin’s rather strong showing among women (usually the bane of the GOP) is encouraging.
Yes, it’s still hard.
I thought Obama couldn’t win months ago. Now it’s starting to look inevitable. It may not even be that close. Obama by 5% or more.
Yes, pollsters were talking about the shy Tory phenomenon during McCain’s convention bump, when the number identifying themselves as Republican took a sharp upswing. Right now that upswing has dissipated.
To add to the unknowables, a lot more states have early voting and easy absentee ballot requirements. I think early voting has already started in OH, and begins here soon. I vote absentee and ordered Hubbie’s and my ballots over the internet by inputting our names, address and dates of birth. Nothing else, not even our voter registration numbers. How hard would it be to get the name, address and DOB of someone who never votes and fill the ballot out for them? Ridiculously easy in FL, which has very low standards because it’s so hard for the old people to get to the polls. And then there’s Palm Beach County, a very blue part of FL, which has already “misplaced” a bunch of printed ballots. Supposedly they’ve been trying to find them for weeks. Riiiight.
“I thought Obama couldnt win months ago.”
You never heard that from me. I’ve been saying for months that this election was going to be a squeaker. It will come down to the ground game in a lot of these swing states.
“It will come down to the ground game in a lot of these swing states.”
That’s not good news.
