WaMu lost 14/15/16 BILLION in deposits over the last ten days according to the local papers. Can any bank survive a general run on banks?
No. Let’s hope Shumer doesn’t try to create any new ones, but at this point, if your bank account is with Chase or Citi or BofA, you don’t need to worry (esp. if it is under $100k - why anyone would have more than $100k in a savings or checking acct is beyond me, but some rich people do some very dumb things).
