But how do we know that was the spirit in which she gave Obama the bracelet? I'm not saying that it wasn't; but Barry has been known to embellish or outright lie before. I realize the mother is an Obama supporter, but this from the article makes it look as if Barry might have stepped waaaay over the line. (Again.)
Jopek began by saying that his ex-wife was taken aback, even upset, that Obama has made the death of her son a campaign issue. Jopek says his wife gave Obama the bracelet because "she just wanted Mr. Obama to know Ryan's name." Jopek went on to say that "she wasn't looking to turn it into a big media event" and "just wanted it to be something between Barack Obama and herself." Apparently, they were all shocked it became such a big deal.
See my post #64. The mother is not being truthful if you believe the story, written on February 18. 2008, is accurate. The mother is a self-described political junkie and Obama supporter. Supposedly, the mother came up with the idea after seeing McCain wearing a bracelet. I suspect that this is a concocted story, which is why the mother is now refusing to talk to the press. More than likely, it was the Obama campaign who came up with the idea for the bracelet.
Bottom line: If one parent of a fallen soldier tells you to stop politicizing his or her son's death, you stop. Period. Both parents need not be in agreement on this issue for the candidate to know the right thing to do.
