Barack was the very junior senator on the defensive the entire evening.
After John McCain eloquently (and without notes) discussed the bracelet he wears given to him by the mom of a dead Iraq war vet.
Trying to prove his own support for the troops, Obama chimed in with a pathetic "I've got a bracelet, too," as he looked down at his notes to read the name of the soldier.
It was as if he just handed obammy a lesson in big dog politics... and it made obammy look like an intern being scolded.
I saw Obama smirking. I also believe I heard him mutter “Not True” several times, on things that as far as I know were true. I also saw him look at notes for the soldier’s name. At several points he also seemed flustered.
McCain was smiling and seemed confident. Though he did smirk once or twice himself.
AWESOME!
Only not a gaffe because most people won’t care.
I thought McCain left a point on the table there. He could have asked why an IL state senator’s opinion would matter on such an issue, and what did he risk by opposing it.
You’ll get arrested if you set foot in Missouri.
He was as conservative as a conservative would be on a lot of issues. Very strange. Won’t play well to his supporters.
I did think McCain was mistaken on the cost-plus contracts issue he mentioned.
Depending on what exactly you want, cost-plus may be the only way to get it. This type of contract is often used to produce experimental or prototype systems.
I think that the Braclet Gaffe should be talked at every water cooler a freeper is at on Monday Morning.
One other thing that bothered me was when Obama referred to President Bush as your president. I wish McCain would have said he’s your president too. Then he could have gone on and said Bill Clinton was my president even though he was from another party. IMHO
That’s because socialists don’t have presidents. They have a premier.
Wasn't it Obama who said "that's what they do". That's what they do. I've had that said to me.
I agree, Mac definitely missed a chance there. But I was disappointed that Brit or the panel didn’t bring it up.
It may not be a true gaffe, per se, but at the very least BO is trying to make it seem like he’s got more US Senate experience than he does. Either way, he should be called on it. Oh well.
Love it!
I bet my favorite guitar, that Obama DOES NOT have a soldier’s bracelet. He made it up, as he made up what the mother “from Green Bay” told him: “Make sure what happened to my son doesn’t happen to anyone else”
Yeah, Barry, sure. Isn’t it funny, that is VERBATIM the same thing you were told by the “mother” who gave you the American flag lapel pin “from a dead soldier” that you wore for, what, 1 day??
I’m sure you’re keeping the bracelet in the same safe place you’re keeping that flag pin.
Geez this guy is irritating; I pray I don’t need to listen to his annoying speaking pattern: “speak, pause, WHO..., pause, speak, pause, THEN..., pause, speak...” for 4 years.
For a guy who’s so brilliant and gifted he sure speaks haltingly, when trying to think on his feet.
I have a new tagline.
At one point I think Obama was trying to explain how the financial crisis might have some affect on "MY SPENDING" or something like that and I screamed at the TV that IT'S NOT YOUR MONEY! Liberals just don't understand that part of government. Politicians never have the same concern about taxpayer money as they do about their own money.
