My air group was stationed at Gitmo for six weeks while the USS Kitty Hawk did sea trials in 1961. We then returned aboard and went around the Horn to San Diego.

I was stationed in Gitmo for a year and a half, transferred to the USS Boston and I’ll be damned if the first place we sailed to was Gitmo for on a shakedown cruise.
The only good thing about going back to Gitmo was that we got out of Boston and able to breath fresh air again.
