Why? If there’s nothing to do in Washington tonight, why shouldn’t he go? It’ll show that he can multitask and do it splendidly should he do well in this debate, which I’m sure he will. I hope they don’t change things on him at the last minute to give Obama the edge. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

I like your thinking. But will challenge your comment on Obama being given the edge should things change at the last minute.

I seriously do not believe Obama has what it takes to battle McCain in a debate, change or surprise.

The public perception is that we are in the midst of a crisis. By his own account, McCain was needed in Washington to do his job. And as far as I remember, he said that he was not going to go to the debate.

So here we are now, a week after McCain's announcement, apparently no closer to a resolution of this crisis. Yet now he thinks it's a good idea to go to the debate? What happened to the crisis?

John had to know that the Democrats would drag out a resolution indefinitely, but he should have postponed the re-commissioning of his campaign until early next week, after skipping the first debate.
