It's idiotic. Dual citizenship is perfectly legal under American law. Some people, such as my future kids, will be dual citizens from birth through no actions of their own. It defies credibility that such people would be barred from the Presidency because of the laws of another country.
My mother renounced, under US law, her prior citizenhsip, when she was naturalized. In the eyes of the US Government, she is an American, not a dual national.
I'm not sure that's true (or the law may have changed in the interim)- I was naturalized in late 2006 and did not have to give up my existing citizenships. I am, legally, a citizen of the US, Canada and Serbia. US authorities are aware of this- whenever I cross the border into each country, when they scan either of my passports, the display shows the border agent that I hold both Canadian and US passports.
Some people through no actions of their own were born in a foreign country.
It defies credibility that such people would be barred from the Presidency...
I suppose so.
