In fact, I would not be surprised that we'll end up with a version of the bailout that is almost EXACTLY what McCain wants, notably no earmarks and strong transparency on where the money will go in regards to the bailout.

the people who money bundle this stuff are playing national politics.

The Sovereign funds want the US to fall.

This is the best time for those bundler buyers of crappy under collateralized mortgages. The policians up for reelection are screaming like little schoolgirls so they are more than willing to pork their way to job secuirty.

meantime the taxpayer is stuck paying 400 thousand for a 200 thousand house.

Cripes, there will be blood in the streets tomorrow.

Maybe, maybe not......but I know I would NOT be sleeping well if I hadn't (as fiduciary/POA/guardian) moved my 87 year old Alzheimers afflicted mother's assets to "cash" in early July.....she and Dad, who died at 94 a year ago, had been suckered into long term bonds and a ton of 'growth' stocks by Charles Schwab Schmuck a few years before they both totally lost their marbles.

(Managing one's own worth is enough of a burden, but trying to make a loved one's dwindling assets cover caregivers and other late life stuff REALLY sucks)

Just think folks.

Al Qaeda, slamming planes into the Financial Center of the United States, could not achieve their goal; the destruction of the United States Economy.

Seven years later, to the very month, the very place attacked--Wall Street--(combined with unethical if not treasonous, deceptive lenders and borrowers) are on the verge of succeeding to do that which al-Qaeda abjectly failed.

Talk about the irony of irony of our times.

Osama, and Muhammad Omar, if alive in their cave in Waziristan, or in Jammu/Kashmir under LeT protection, must be laughing themselves hoarse in the throat.

God Bless the United States of America. I am truly sorry to see this happen. Good luck and godspeed everyone.

I hope Barney Frank and Chris Dodd are happy with the fruits of their labors. I am beginning to think that dragging them out and hanging them publically for this criminal act is too good of punishment for them. They brought on legislation that cuased this. McCain was part of a group 5 years ago that said this would go bad soon, and it needed to be dealt with. Why don’t we do like China does? Just execute criminals like this?

So absent an immediate infusion of 700 million dollars to the market, markets will cease to exist? Is that your position?

Your lack of debt is not the concern. It will be the lack of anything to buy and the inflation that will make your valuables... valueless.

If the monetary system falls the ages old economical solution kicks in. What you have and what you can do is very valuable at that point. It's called bartering. Works even in the roughest of times.

I went metallic a long time ago, and that is rough BTW, better that you handled it for your parents.

We’ll see what happens in the overnight markets.

A-men to that. I didn’t say it was right, it is just the way it is now. As a country we decided to become Socialism-light in the ‘30s. Reagan slowed the movement, but with Bush, Clinton and Bush, the pace is picking up again. I just don’t see the momentum slowing for us to get back on the right track.

I agree we have got to put out the fire. I worry the solution will only add gasoline to the fire and solve nothing.

Sub-Prime loans must be stopped now and an Increase in bank reserves must be instituted are we will never get out of this problem no matter the size of the bailout.

700B is not going to fix a 60T problem.

Criminal punishment can come later.

Writing a blank check for a trillion dollars to a democrat Congress led possibly by a marxist POTUS in 4 months is something I'm not interested in.

Given the earmarks that the Dems tried to put into the bill so far, I have no doubt that this would be considered a $700B piggy bank for every socialist in the world if the Dems have any say in it.

Take it down, 'cause it's going down anyway. At least this way we won't have Wiemar-style hyper-inflation added to the mix.

I don’t understand why people won’t take this seriously

People ARE taking this seriously.

It's decision time.

Do we want a free market economy where there are losers and winners OR do we want a full-blown communist society?

There are horrors much greater than a stock market crash.

There is the loss of freedom.

There is a surrender to panic which makes us serfs or slaves to government control.

My wife and I will be on our knees planting our own vegetable garden without cash or complaint if this country remains rooted in capitalism and freedom.

Otherwise, all of us will end up on our knees begging our government for morsels.

I am proud to see many of my fellow citizens on this site choosing freedom over slavery, even with the threat of a financial meltdown.

Only fools would choose a false promise of security from tyrants to the sweet breath of freedom paid for in blood by so many of our forefathers.

Don’t we have a right to know what our tax money is being spent on?

ROTFLMAO !

All we need to know is that it's a plan cobbled together by the government; and we all know they are only here to help us.

hahahahahaha

what will you do if you get sick and need to go to the hospital?
I know one thing’s for sure. I’m not going to let this country go back to the Stone Age.

As I said when economies have failed this time honored tradition has worked throughout mans entire history until the economy was restored. I knew lots of people who tell me they survived the Great Depression this way. It may well also solve another issue which has been the collapse of the family. As in the past families will pull together for their survival. FDR bailouts began the collapse of the family and LBJ finished the job with The Great Society government is going to solve it all programs.

I’m not quite understanding why so many think that the same idiots that brought on this mess are going to fix it. Quit looking to the government to save the day. They caused this - lets not blindly trust a bunch of self-serving politicians to resolve something in which they have a financial interest.
