You know, I'm tired of hearing it's the Dems' fault. The greedy entitlement/easy credit mentality runs deep in both the Republicans and Democrats. If the Republicans had been screaming for the last 10 years about excesses in the mortgage and financial industries instead of spending like drunken sailors themselves, maybe I'd be willing to lay this whole mess at the feet of the Dems.

The President had the ear of the nation for crying out loud - he could have given dire warnings in his State of the Union address every year. Instead, he touted the success of his administration in increasing the rate of homeownership.

There's plenty of blame to go around.

I agree with every word you said.

President did warn the country seventeen times in recent weeks. No one listened.

Reminds me of those folks that wanted to be rescued during a terrible hurricane, when they had been warned to leave.

Perhaps President Bush’ priority was fighting two wars and keeping the terrorists from our door.

Compared to a nuke being dropped on us I guess I’ll take a financial crisis.

Anything that money can fix is preferable to glowing cities.

Nope. It’s always been the Dems. There was an article posted here from Forbes in 2005 that stated Reagan tried to rein in Fannie and Freddie but was blocked by Dems. Bush tried in 2003 and was blocked by Dems and Rinos. McCain tried in 2005 with the same result.

Good point, and perhaps that's why he's not talking about who's to blame.

I'll revise my own assignment of blame to 75% democrat, 25% republican. Looking at the list of campaign donations from many of these institutions points a very strong finger at the dems. Still, they weren't the only ones touting the rate of homeownership.
