Delay debate? What the? Why not shift it to domestic financial issues?
Why not let them debate in the Senate???? The perfect place for it.
Because that would not be "suspending his campaign to focus on the economic crisis." To engage in the debate would be to lose the import of this move.
Moreover, McCain is in a very, very strong position here. He will be a lightning rod for the Democrats, which will give his position on the crisis a great deal more weight than it would otherwise have done. He has an opportunity here to "Be Presidential" in the context of a real crisis.
And... he will be able to remind everybody of his old and rejected Fannie Mae legislation.
The more I think about this, the better it becomes. McCain will be "campaigning" very effectively simply by showing up in the Senate and making his position known. And if he also makes sense (which I think he will), Obama will be pushed aside for days or weeks.
This is brilliant!
Because they have not been prepping for the domestic issues debate. If you don’t think massive amounts of practice go into these debates you are from another planet.
