Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims
Internal Government Document Contradicts Sarah Palin, Campaign
By JUSTIN ROOD
September 19, 2008
An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."
Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.
"The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.

At this point I am looking forward to the debates. Obambi is useless without his teleprompter. I am also praying someone has a real juicy October Surprise for Obama that neither he nor the media can spin him out of.
Sarah would have been remiss in NOT firing this trooper who was out of control. He was and is a bad egg. The very fact that he’s still on the force is a disgrace to the state.
They are trying to take her down but in the end I don’t think it’s going to matter because people vote for the top of the ticket. It’s McCain vs. Obama. It’s not so much the MSM taking her down, but pushing Obama relentlessly.
They ARE trying to fight back publicly, but the MEDIA won't publish or telecast their remarks...so what can they do?
And Everyone, (even Freepers) have forgotten that Monegan has testified under oath that:
A) He was NOT fired, but transfered and then he resigned
B) He was NOT asked to fire the trooper and HE does NOT believe his transfer had anything to do with the trooper.
The MSM refuses to believe the victim himself and continues to smear Palin with this fabricated story!!
Thought we got rid of Dan Rather?
Personal vendetta? The guy admitted tasering a 10 year old. He should have been fired.
Blogiferous stuff. Excellence In Posting

could you elaborate?
More garbage from the liberal MSM.
Yet the McCain campaign continues to give them credibility by granting more interviews. Why grant credibility to the enemy?
More like the Chief of Staff was in on the trip idea with Monegan and thought he could approve it without Palin finding out. I’m sure he had his own political allegiances and agendas.
I wouldn’t have put it past Brian Ross to be the one who paid the kid to hack into her emails. I mean, tanning bed - gate? National security is at stake.
So thin it's almost made out of thin air
I think we conservatives should be furious and indignantly protest the application of that worn out and idiotic suffix “-gate” to Sarah Palin’s situation. When did we hear “Wrightgate,” “Ayersgate,” or “Rezkogate” applied to Obama by the MSM? The fact that this has become common parlance (even used by conservatives) proves that we’re allowing the liberal MSM to set the agenda. This nonsense goes back to the Nixon “Watergate’ days and has the inherent connotation of scandal even when there’s none.
“They just wont let this non-story die, and yet you never see ANYTHING on Obamas connections to Rezko, Ayers, etc.”
Yes, and yes. But for all the extremely enlightened, informed and intelligent people on THIS board who don’t seem that concerned about something like this (which I agree is shamefully misstated and inaccurately reported by the despicable MSM), I greatly fear that the VAST majority of uninformed and/or apathetic public only hears these biased sound bytes and twisted “news stories” that are crafted to sound sinister. It borders on criminal how the MSM out and out lies.
Geez, just tonight, larry king had two panels talking about the candidates and their vp’s - when the Iraq War came up, LK stated that Chuck Hagel was a “conservative republican” who was opposed to the war. (we all know what his implication was).
Barf - but see, while WE know that Hagel is a RINO or worse, I’ll guarantee you that the millions of voters who watch LK don’t even know who Hagel is, they get their “information” from shows like LK, networks like CNN/MSNBC and think they’re on the cutting edge because they watch cable “news”.
McCain/Palin must hit back at every attack to set the record straight. Plus, word on “the street” is that Obama et al plan to play as dirty as possible (like they haven’t already???) between now and Nov. 4.
Yes, exactly.
Which government?
Many of them are Hillary chicks. And abortion hysteria can bring them to flick the lever for Obama.
“Exactly, imagine all the real women (not liberal women who are NOT real women) who can relate to a husband beating up on his wife and kids, I am sure they wont be siding with THAT loser over Palin.”
Agreed, IF THOSE facts get reported by the media, which they probably won’t (other than on FNC). I guarantee the only parts of this “story” coming out in the MSM are allegations of Palin’s alleged “abuse of power” and her side’s “refusal” to testify, “defying” subpoenas. Sounds pretty bad, doesn’t it?
See how the spin is done. And THIS is all the public hears in the MSM.
Also, I recall from the news yesterday, Monegan was the police chief in Anchorage, and was fired from that job. Am I correct? No, you are not correct. Monegan was highly regarded throughout his career.
