New Jersey Requires Flu Vaccination for Children

That's right. New Jersey now requires flu vaccines for preschoolers and children attending licensed child care centers. Now parents will have an additional item to cross off their checklists once the school bells ring in September.

The flu vaccine requirement, along with three additional immunizations, was approved last December. According to the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, studies suggest that young children are "particularly efficient in transmitting influenza to their close contacts," including other children, adults and the elderly.

"This new requirement addresses the need to stop flu transmission at a potential source," the department said in a statement.

New Jersey is the only state that requires flu vaccines for preschoolers or older students, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Tell me about it. I and my brothers never got vaccinated for anything, and my parents caught hell from the school cartel then, some forty years ago, but they stood their ground. My wife and I aren’t vaccinating my daughter, but we’re homeschooling, so I won’t have to deal with them, but I couldn’t imagine what we’d have to deal with if we did. I hate New Jersey. I can’t wait to escape.

This is wrong. My cousin got Guillian-Barre syndrome from a flu shot and has never fully recovered! Parents should be able to decide whether or not their kids get the flu shot. I know if they tried to force my son to have that shot, I would be forced to not comply because of the history of my family. My cousin was about 17 when that happened to him.

We homeschool our four kids, and the only shots they got were the proven ones. Didn't see a point in risking their health. We live in the country so they have tetanus shots just in case, you never know what they will get into. None of the new ones without research proving they will not harm our kids health in the future.

My cousin got Guillian-Barre syndrome from a flu shot

interesting

my mother in law had the same unpleasant outcome

she was in her late 70s, not sure if that contributed to it or how common it is

My mother nearly died last winter from Miller Fisher Syndrome - a rarer variety of Guillian-Barre. She had been getting her recommended flu shots for many years. Since her illness and recovery, her doctors tell her never to get another flu shot. They said it could kill her.

Wow! You’d better get your flameproof underwear on in a hurry. In about 5 minutes the “I’m going to assault you if my kid ever gets sick because yours wasn’t vaccinated” crowd is going to show up and see your post.

I think the VA sends about 4 letters to me about getting the flu shot. Waste of good taxpayer money. My kids get the shot, but it’s our choice.

Thanks for the warning, but isn’t that flawed logic? Would not one think their shots would prevent such an occurrence? If it did, I’d say the shots weren’t so protective, now, were they? :)

Yes, the flu vaccination is the one of the few, if not the only one remaining that has trace amounts of mercury preservative. I’m not an the anti-vaccination crazy person, the kids get the standard vaccinations, but I see no reason to get the flu vaccination because it still contains mercury. Thank you Mr. Corzine.

I've got a religious objection letter I wrote for the vaccines that are only derived from fetal cell lines in the United States (Chickenpox, Hepatitis A, Rubella), which is why my kids have only been vaccinated with 2 out of 3 of the MMR components as separate vaccines. I know someone who didn't vaccinate their children at all and had a blanket anti-vaccine letter. Basically, you need to write up a letter describing how the vaccines conflict with your religious beliefs. It has to be framed in religious terms, not philosophical terms. You also have to be willing to tell some nurses and doctors to go fly a kite if they start pushing.

Our pediatrician actually called us to get the kids in for their shots...we didn’t call them. Thankfully my kids will be done with daycare mid December, and the shots are required before Dec. 31st. I’m going to hold off until they’re out. I’ve never had the flu vaccination, don’t see any reason for them to. I’m off to write my congressman.
