US electoral college forecast shows McCain is way ahead of Obama

The latest forecast of the Electoral College suggests that John McCain is way ahead of his Democratic rival Barack Obama.

The research to be presented at the annual meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences on between October 13 and 15, less than three weeks before the election, says that as of September 16, the margin in electoral votes could be as high as 282.8 votes for Senator John McCain against 255.2 for Senator Barack Obama, depending on the forecasting scenario.

Operations researcher Sheldon H. Jacobson, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, along with a group of students and collaborators at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

http://www.electoral-vote.com/, which is run by an Obama supporter, has McCain winning with 274 electoral votes to Obama's 243. Pennsylvania is exactly tied and is not counted.

Not to confuse the issue, but I’m over here in central Indiana, and I’m not seeing what I would expect in terms of support for McCain.

But it seems there is very little excitement about the presidential race in general, which may explain it.

Why is Iowa so Blue? I've never been there, but I would describe Iowa as being as about as middle America as you can get, both geographically and demographically, yet it has a percentage of democrats. My guess would be because most of the population is centered around the campus towns, but that's just a guess.

Iowa is a much weirder State than most think. They have one of the best education systems K-University in the country, yet suffers from an anti-Business climate. Thus, the only jobs Iowegians can get are either as farmer (obviously) or teacher. Also, many of the farmers are influenced by the old Socialist Grange, not to mention they want the Gubmint to keep pushing for ethanol so they can keep their corn prices up.

For an Iowegian to do something positive with their degree, they have to leave the State.

I'm not a native Iowan, but my parents are and all my distant relatives are from there, thus it's my ancestral homeland.

As a former Iowan (born, raised and educated) with two college degrees from Iowa State I can confirm this. Iowa has some industry, but the tendency toward liberal lunacy is a bit too high (see failed proposal to require social services visits when every newborn goes home for an example).
