The story behind the Palin e-mail hacking (Uncovered: who was responsible-graphic language warning)
michellemalkin.com ^ | September 17, 2008 | Michelle Malkin

This afternoon, I mentioned an infamous group of hackers whose Internet bulletin board was the gathering place for those who bragged about and publicized the Sarah Palin private e-mail hacking.

A tech-savvy reader who monitors the hackers’ site e-mailed me a detailed explanation of how it went down, who was responsible, and how someone with a conscience warned a friend of the Palin family of the crime (language warning):

I find it curious that this comes on the heels of 0bama’s stupid ad about McCain’s email capabilities. What got him interested in the first place? Could it be that he (his campaign) tried to hack McCain’s email account and discovered he didn’t have one and then went after hers? I wouldn’t put anything past these people.

And now we are suppose to buy that this has not been coordinated in some manner and that it was just a ‘bored teenager’? Not buying it folks.

For what it's worth, I read the little jerk's post and I buy his story. Figuring out how to reset the password was not hard to do, though it did require some luck. I bet I could have done it if I had tried (and was lucky.)

The breach appears to be partly Yahoo's fault for making it so easy to reset a password, and partly Sarah Palin's for being honest when she answered the account's security questions. I hope the guy who did this is caught and punished, but he apparently covered his own tracks, so that probably won't happen.

An interesting IT article that suggests that the feds will be on top of the culprit in no time at all:

That sounds like the wrong proxy service to try to hide behind. Maybe he will be caught after all.

Guessing a weak password isn’t a “hack”.

I don’t think it’s possible for a user to delete a yahoo email account on his own. There’s no option or tool available to do that.

That's not an issue either since you'd be surprised at the number of attorneys and government types who in fact do correspond with each other using yahoo or gmail accounts if they are working at home or offsite.

Since Governor Palin worked at home often because of the 700 mile commute from Wasilla to Alaska, so what if she used her Yahoo! account to do her emailing? As long as she's not transmitting classified information that way, it's all open to the public anyway. No biggie.

Nutcase. Well, he’s going to have plenty of chess-playing time where he’s going.

I saw that Allred fraud, some lawyer she is, any evidence that is illegally obtained is thrown out, period full stop. Poisoned fruit.

This would apply in normal legal process, but nobody aimed that way. The relevant forum here is not any US jurisdiction, but the Court of Public Opinion. In that jurisdiction no evidence is excluded, nothing can be retroactively excluded, nobody can order the jury to ignore anything and nobody is excluded from the jury on basis of information contamination. And the fact that there can be no legal process can be even more damning ("the bastard got away on technicality").

And the verdict will be cast in November 4th.

Palin was fortunate that the e-mail account contained nothing more compromising than few silly photos.

The good news is that the hacker probably supports gay marriage, so he may only have one husband in prison instead of being passed around the general population.

“A friend of mine works for the fbi. He does the traces.you turn on ur computer they know where you are instantly.
You can bet this guy and everyone else already has an open file on them as I write this and will be arrested.”

That’s great news./s

I read years ago about brain sludge - information we keep in our heads that no one else would know. Just exactly what you stated. I have brain sludge info - phone number when I was a kid, license tag of first car, things like that.

I think it would be a good idea for people to delete their yahoo accounts en masse.

So much for Privacy rights, the very tenet they use to claim that abortion should be omnipresent!

They truly are LOONS!

...also (in addition to my last note I was writing when FR went down last night), the comments found on 4Chan's site don't seem to fit how they normally converse. They use a lot of jargon and graphics, They have their own language, nothing near as detailed and coherent as this. They have their own language:

Hello, /b/ as many of you might already know, last night sarah palin’s yahoo was “hacked” and caps were posted on /b/, i am the lurker who did it, and i would like to tell the story.

In the past couple days news had come to light about palin using a yahoo mail account, it was in news stories and such, a thread was started full of newfags trying to do something that would not get this off the ground, for the next 2 hours the acct was locked from password recovery presumably from all this bull**** spamming...

something doesn't smell right. Even reading the 4channers, they don't believe the source who wrote that confession is one of them, and they always take credit...
