Governors and Community Organizers

Governors and Community Organizers

I have seen of late the proposition that Jesus Christ was a "community organizer", and that Pontius Pilate was a "governor".

The obvious connection that is implied is that Barack Obama is like Jesus Christ, and Sarah Palin is like Pontius Pilate. I guess one could possibly draw those conclusions

I would agree that Barack Obama is more "community organizer" than "governor. However, it would be quite a stretch to take a Michael Moore connect the dots approach to comparing Community Organizer Barack Obama to Community Organizer Jesus Christ.

Since this is all just silliness, let’s see where it leads.

We could start by comparing Jesus of Nazareth’s accomplishments in his thirty some years of life on this earth with Barack Hussein Obama’s forty seven years of life on this earth. That seems pointless at the onset because Barack has accomplished nothing notable so far. Can you picture a world 2000 years in the future in which virtually everyone on the planet knows that Barack Obama ever existed; much less have an awareness of his purpose in life? Okay, we give up on the notion of comparing Obama’s accomplishments as community organizer with those of Jesus.

Let’s move on to comparing Sarah Palin with Pontius Pilate. Here we find a little more in common. They are indeed both Governors.

Pontius Pilate was appointed Governor. He was an official of the Roman Empire.
Sarah Palin was elected Governor. She is an official of the sovereign state of Alaska

Governor Pilate was a Democrat as evidenced by his order to execute Jesus to please the mob.
Governor Palin is a Republican and does not respond to the will of mobs.

Governor Pilate was a ruthless governor and hated by the people he was appointed to govern.
Governor Palin has an enormous approval rating from the people who elected her to govern.

Governor Pilate attempted to evade his responsibility in the trail of Jesus.
Governor Palin faces her responsibilities.

Governor Pilate was a weak and vacillating man.
Governor Palin is a strong minded and decisive woman.

So far, I don’t see the comparison. Do you?

TOPICS: News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: community; communityorganizer; governors; obamabiden; organizers
If Obama insist on being Jesus while insisting Sarah Palin is Pontius Pilate, he should keep this food for thought in mind; Pontius Pilate ordered the crucifixion of Jesus.

From a historian view of Governor Pilate. He wasn’t elected...he was appointed. The Rome folks brought him in....not the locals. When the local cops (best description for the thugs who made the arrest) brought Jesus in...Pilate eventually made the “Rome decision” (which he couldn’t violate their authority, even from that distance), but then he did a strange thing. Pilate had to write the proper title on the cross....so he, as governor, admitted he was dealing with the “king of the Jews”, period. The local authorities were highly upset....wanting the description to be “someone who says he is the King of the Jews”. Pilate never backed down on the title.

The interesting thing here is that history normally would have recorded very little on Pilate and he would have been mostly forgotten by the masses of society, the mainstream media, and even most Deacons....except he had to pass judgment over one individual that remains in the highest levels of history. When people go back to armchair quarterbacking....this is the one episode that continues to be brought up, and can never be tossed as a simple mistake.

Maybe he was being sarcastic? Or maybe not. I understand that there is an old tradition that Pilot’s wife was a follower of Jesus.

The Roman soldiers thought Pilate was being sarcastic. Why else did they put a “crown” of thorns on His head?
