DETROIT (AP) - The state auto club said that the statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular fuel was up about 5 cents to $3.94 early Saturday from Friday morning. That's up about 20 cents from Monday.
AAA spokeswoman Nancy Cain said there were some reports of prices above $4 a gallon.
On Friday, Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Attorney General Mike Cox promised to monitor and swiftly deal with any gas gouging in the state. Hurricane Ike threatens some of the Gulf Coast's oil refineries.
Closing oil refineries because of the hurricane could lead to an eventual bump in gas prices at some point.
AAA surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
Lots of stations out of gas here in NC and those that have it are charging over $4 gallon with a few exceptions of $3.85 or more. Not looking good. Time to release some of the reserve?
Wow! And I was happy that prices here in SF DROPPED to $3.98 today...
obama’s fault.
$3.99 in the Lower Southeast Corner this morning for regular. It was $0.20 less per gallon in Ohio last night.
31 cents in one day in MN.......
And, no, this is NOT the time to use the strategic reserve. This is the time to drill locally in the US and increase the world supply of an interchangeable commodity; open new refineries not just in Hurricane Alley but other parts of the country; and let the market pick the winners in the alternative fuels development.
Here in Macomb county, 4.29 credit.
E-85 was $1.03 under 87 octane this morning in Bargersville, Indiana. I feel so guilty using it knowing that it deprives some poor 3rd world resident of his daily need for corn starch.
$4.19 is the magic number. It is there at independents and chains. They are moving gas by truck to the SE because of the pipeline problems. It will affect the mid-western states.
I live in the far NE corner of Oakland County. Our little village gas station was out of gas when I went this morning. Luckily I had enough gas to get to the next closest station, and it was $4.19. Hopefully, it’ll come down again in the next few days.
Bargersville? You caught me on that one - I had to re-size the Google map 3 times before I recognized the area. That’s probably because I usually get to Indianaapolis and turn left, so I never have been there.
It’s pretty much the closest big city to Mahalasville.
I hope so.
In middle TN, it went from $3.76 at noon to $3.95 at 5 pm. What is the definition of gouging again?
Oh - you should have said that in the first place.
$4.19 in Ann Arbor too. Build more refineries! Drill more oil.
The next time you see it it will be 4.19
