There is a builder on my street who bilds like that - I watched him put up a couple of houses, and learned one heck of a lot.
He does things like overlap the plywood between floors, instead of building stacked boxes.
Remarkable stuff. My house is shoddy, compared to the stuff he builds.
My Husband builds like that. He built our house himself over a three year period (we lived in a trailer on the property). When the framing inspector came he said "I know where I'm going during the next hurricane!".
There is a smart way to build houses and there is a cheap way. Since your home is,for most people, your largest investment, it should be your priority to have it built to withstand whatever nature tends to throw to your neck of the woods. Hubby builds 'code plus' whether he's building from ground, remodeling or even just adding a deck... only way to do it down here, IMHO.
