af_vet, do you live on Bolivar Pennisula? What's the deal with your skepticism? Have you seen the EPA photo of Gilchrist looking east? There's only one house standing all the way to High Point. I.e., it's wiped out. There's little of value left no way to sustain returning residents -just like the judge's order stated. If people are allowed on to what, go bonkers at their totalled property, they will require outside assistance, particularly if they get injured on debris, and there's lots of debris. And the main road isn't clear, or is covered with sand or is torn up so what if their cars start breaking down before even reaching the, the.... foundation of their house?

Imo they shouldn't let anyone in until the roads have been cleared and electricty restored. It'll take a lot longer for water and sewage to be restored considering all the severed pipes when the lots were levelled. It's not safe, it's not sanitary so it's not responsible. If people still want to return to get their belongings then what about protecting others' belongings from looting, etc.? If they can't support relief workers they can't allow people to stay there.

I dunno maybe some people have to see to let go or they lost loved ones or animals they think might still be there. Who knows, maybe in a few days they'll let them go in supervised during daytime with a Will Not Rescue waiver or something.

I'm not skeptical anymore - what we have been seeing on Channel 13 this afternoon confirmed quite a bit of what most of us guessed.

Some of those areas, it's pretty clear that there won't be any electricity or water or sewage service. They are finished as far as human habitation - the surge took away enough landmass that they are at sea level (if not below).
