Meanwhile, in Ladue, authorities said the storm was to blame for another fatality.
“It was a freak accident. Just a tree in the yard came down,” said Ladue Fire Chief Ted Jury.
Crews were hard at work Sunday afternoon, trying to remove the evidence of what happened here. According to family members, 49-year-old Joan Dankner took her dog into the backyard and never returned. Her husband went looking for her.
“He found her on the driveway, having been struck, he later learned by a very heavy limb to the back of the head,” said Lecie Lowenbaum, Dankner’s sister-in-law.
She was rushed to the hospital but it was too late. Dankner was mother to 11-year-old twin girls and a 10-year-old boy. She also spent many years working as an intensive care nurse. Her family said she will be sorely missed.
