66-year-old Thomas VanderWoude and his 20-year-old son Joseph, who has Down syndrome and who is the youngest of seven sons, were working in their yard in Nokesville, VA when Joseph fell through a septic tank cover that had suddenly collapsed. VanderWoude immediately jumped in after his son and managed to hold his son's head above the surface, saving his life. Prayers for the whole VanderWoude family, particularly for Joseph's full recovery and also for the repose of Thomas's soul. May God grant every father the grace to love each of his children like Thomas VanderWoude so clearly loved his son Joseph.

How incredibly sad. Prayers go out for their family.
I was just reading another story about a man and his 12 year old son who also has Downs Syndrome. They were swept out to sea, and even though they were separated, they both miraculously survived, after spending 12 hours in the ocean. They had to tread water for all that time because they didn't have on life vests. They were also stung by jellyfish.

Agreed. That dad was speechless when he learned his son was safe after he had been rescued. He just kept thanking the Coast Guard, over and over.

Sainthood? I think maybe. Whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers, that you do unto me.
