I would suspect because the front of the Metrolink is smashed in and ripped open. The car is on its side.

I appears to be a head on collision between the Metrolink and the freight train.
The force of the impact drove the first car of the Metrolink back into the the car behind it. It looks like approximately 50 feet.
It appears as if the first car of the Metrolink primarily pushed back into the upper deck section of the second train.
The first two cars of the Metrolink are on their side.
The freight train engine is on its side and the cars behind it are scattered.
