“It is a common expression, but Obama knew and his core audience KNEW what he was referring to. Couple the PIG comment (referring to Palin) with the old FISH comment that was meant to refer to McCain and voila... classic smear... coming from the messiah of CHANGE!!!”
Exactly. McCain is clearly being referred to as the”old fish wrapped in paper” and Palin as the”pig wearing lipstick”. Obama only contexted these insults in reference to change so that he could deny calling McCain an old fish and Palin a pig. Having said this, it is better to not continue to push this issue. Good that it got media attention, but now is the time to let it rest. Then it can be a seed of doubt that can germinate within the American Consciousness.
It is natural to want to circle the wagons around Sarah, but she is tough. She must prove to the American public that she is up to the challenge of the office she seeks. I have faith in her. Our job is to bring to light the vile and deceit of our opposition but not react to it. No demands for apologies or any of that. That only makes us appear weak and petty.
In my family and in my public life... I’m all for calling someone on bad behavior. Just sets things straight for the future.
The problem with discourse in politics today is that the GOP is so afraid of calling the other side on their bad behavior... so as in any situation where a grievance goes unnoticed, it escalates.
It is not whining, weak or petty to point out the despicable.
