It’s NOT too late for Obama to do this. Would he go groveling to Hillary? I hope not.
I agree. Do you remember Sen Eagelton?
“....would Obama go grovelling to the Clintons...?”
Biden is total dead-weight for the Obama campaign. Obama may be thinking that a better chance with Hillary is better than no chance with Biden.
Perhaps Hillary would take VP spot, as Co-President, and if she had veto rights over Cabinet choices (??)
The question is, would Biden just step down “for the good of the country” or would 0 have to fire him? I’m not sure 0 could do it. Having never run anything he’s never had to confront the situation of a subordinate who finds them self in the wrong job. Barak is very conflict averse and if he did manage the cojones to go through with it, I could see him doing it in a way that would produce maximum aggression and desire to get even on the part of the individual being terminated. It could get ugly.
Then there’s the Hillary problem. She wouldn’t do it for nothing. She’d have major demands. Even if canning Biden didn’t sink the campaign and 0 and HRC were elected, he’d spend the next four years looking over his shoulder at a VP who would undercut him at every turn. If she does end up on the ticket as a student of Roman history I just hope the Secret Service has good, expendable food tasters. (Imagine the voice of the oracle Oprah saying “Barak... Barak... Don’t eat the mushrooms!”)
Then there’s the question of what does Hillary think is best for Hillary. If 0 goes down in flames and she is not on the ticket, she is unsoiled by the defeat and has a clear field in 2012. The questions she’ll ask herself include: Can she wait? Can she beat McCain the incumbent in 2012? Can she beat Palin, who will have lost much of her luster by then, in 2016?
Either way, the Dems are in full meltdown mode and it’s going to be an interesting campaign. More popcorn anyone?
