I don't even know if it's that, it's more along them lines of them doing anything possible to get your attention. I watch very little weather-related news - with the hurricane stuff, I just follow Masters' blog on wunderground.com. I don't need video of him standing in the windiest spot he could find, I just want to hear if it's getting better or worse, and where the best guesses are putting it.

I would throw in that Masters also makes much better comparisons to past hurricanes. The TV people tend to throw around hurricane names but don’t tell you why - Masters will say “this resembles Hurricane Such-and-Such because Hurricane Such-and-Such followed this path, was at this strength, had this size of an eye, was raising the tide this much” , etc., etc..
