It's a limitation for the hurricane thread because evacuees and those who are the path of the storm often have to use less then broadband when viewing them.
Appropriate question, but “no” it is not a FR limit.
NautiN requests we keep graphics low-key and small size because (in emergencies in the affected area) broadband and net servers go down, no graphics load much faster o wireless and phone lines.
A hurricane thread can last three-four days, and is the only source of real news to many. 1500-2000 answers take a while to scroll through with graphics.
