My prayers are with you for safety as you evacuate.
There are hardly words to describe the last look at your home through the rear-view mirror as you drive away before a storm. Take care, and please check in when you can.

We’re keeping the vehicles filled in case we need to siphon extra fuel for the generator. Chainsaw got a good workout last week from Gustav. Restocking on batteries and camp fuel for lantern. Restocking drinking water. Getting ready to hunker down again.

A personal forecast such as yours would not be permitted on a weather discussion board without a disclaimer.

Ah...some good news.
I just got off the phone with my mother-in-law. I called their house, but got theiir answering machine. So I tried her cell, and got her. Turns out they decided just this morning to get the heck outta Dodge and go north to their oldest son’s place in Lubbock. They packed their luggage stuck Socks the Wonder Dog in the Expedition, and are headed north. They said they were going north on I-45 and that traffic was lighter than they expected.
MAJOR sigh of relief on my part.

"Got a call from my mom in Gulf Shores (AL). Said that as cars drive down the beach road (West of 59), water is splashing the tires." I was just out, tides at Fowl River/Mobile Bay are real high.

Just saw Gov Perry on FOX- he sounds very sober. We’re getting some bands over here in Central Florida too, this storm is HUGE.

I believe that is a criminal offense in Texas.

Gov. Perry did look stressed.
I've been saying for two days that this storm is giving me the creeps. We've had weather from Ike for days, all while it was 300-450 miles away. Spooky.

Well, we didn’t live in a hurricane area when they were growing up (we moved to S. FL only 4 years ago, and the boys were all out of the house by then). Of course, they’ve been thru a tornado (wow, that was something!) and they’re sensible, but they are far enough inland, that I worry that they won’t take it seriously. Of course, I also have a nephew on Galveston Island, and my daughter in law has a sister in Houston.
My prayers for all of TX!

"Did I see video of some flooding in Mobile already today?" Probably.
We have a steady wind from the ESE that's blowing water inland.

That’s encouraging. I’m glad one of us is holding up under the strain. I’ll have a double for Governor Rick Perry, our designated sober hurricane hunkerer.

Somebody over on easternuswx.com linked a traffic camera on the US 90/98 causeway (I think east of downtown Mobile?) and there looked to be a foot or more of water lapping over the set of lanes closest to the bay. The other lanes were drier but had sand piled up on them against the median as if water had surged over them and dropped it there. And the sky was sunny! That’s pretty impressive, considering just how far Ike is away from Mobile right now.
