Speaking at a high school in Norfolk, Obama took a few moments to address what he calls "the made-up controversy" of the day, Amie Parnes reports.
Obama said the McCain campaign moved to "seize an innocent remark and take it out of context because they knew it's catnip for the news media."
"See, it would be funny, but the news media decided that would be the lead story yesterday. This happens every election cycle. Every four years, this is what we do. This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about...Enough!" he said.
Obama called the attacks "lies, outrage and swift boat politics."
"These are serious times and they call for a serious debate...spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change."

You make it sound like Muslim men have a problem with women.
I disagree. Sarah got in a lot of good one-liners that were clean and funny. The lipstick/pig joke was tasteless and was name calling.....for nothing. Add the stinky fish joke and that’s a double shot at our lady. I do not buy that Obama, who has spent plenty of time on the streets of Chicago did not KNOW how offensive those remarks were. He is just surprised that WE understand exactly what he meant and are sick of his style politicing. The remarks were crass and uninspired.
Sorry to say, but the left has been very successful in defining exactly what the Swift Boat ads were. And this should be corrected fast, or it is going to do damage. Maybe a Fox or CNN (ha!) special report recalling the 2004 campaign advertising episode and examining just what the Swift Boat ads were.
The first one, as I recall, was the testimony of the 3 other Swift Boat pilots on the river that day in Vietnam with John Kerry, and they had a different recollection of events than Kerry did. Question their version, if you like - but it was not a “lie” or “misrepresentation.” And the second ad was all about Kerry’s videotaped testimony before a congressional committee on the supposed “war crimes” committed by US soldiers in Vietnam. Again, his own words!!
This needs to be cleared up.
“What a condescending prick”
Now that is a great quote. Thanks for sharing what I’m sure is your honest thoughts.. And, a statement of fact...he is a condescending prick !!
Made up story and all the fact remains that SHOULD Obama be elected POS that world wars have been started with a single mistaken word spoken.
Anyone without the common sense to think first and speak later has no business being in command of the nuclear arsenal of the US!
It would have more impact if it was brief and sincere. He again missed an opportunity. IMO, he came across as arrogant and snide.
Wow!
Every lost day for Obama, is a day closer to losing the election. This is about the 12th or 13th lost day in a row for his campaign. Usually great Democrat fodder such as unemployment went up last week, was barely mentioned by the media. Instead they are questioning whether or not Obama meant to call Palin a pig.
He knew. And so did his audience. I saw the video again this morning. The audience instantly knew that Obama was making reference to Palin's lipstick joke. Now the guy holds a press conference in which he can't even own up to his own remark.
When my daughter was about 4, she had two stuffed pigs. We named them Link and Patty.
“seize an innocent remark and take it out of context”
Oh yea. we hadn’t notice that your campaign has been sliming Sarah. Calling her a pig is one of the nicer things you’ve said.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
He could have composed a much bette statement. But I think he thinks he’s “cool”. I don’t want a cool president, I want a competent president.
bette=better. LOL.
Didn't work.
