Obama: Palin playing gender card

The Barack Obama campaign accused their Republican opponents of a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card" tonight with the McCain campaign's demand that Obama apologize for a remark made earlier in the evening.

Obama used a "lipstick on a pig" metaphor this evening as he tried to tell voters why they shouldn't believe John McCain and Sarah Palin when they say they represent change.

"Enough is enough," Obama senior adviser Anita Dunn said in a statement e-mailed to reporters

"The Mc Cain campaign's attack tonight is a pathetic attempt to play the gender card about the use of a common analogy - the same analogy that Senator McCain himself used about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan just last year," she continued. "This phony lecture on gender sensitivity is the height of cynicism and lays bare the increasingly dishonorable campaign John McCain has chosen to run."

Lots of folks may have used that expression, but in context, it’s very clear how Obama intended it, and his audience certainly “got it” - did you hear their laughter?

This might have been a slip, except that Obama has practiced these subtle slurs - recall his giving Hillary the bird, but in such a way that he could say, “I was just scratching my face!”

Same thing here - he intended to insult her,

Just as if someone were to make a “monkey” remark in regard to him...

McCain was also excoriated for referencing the old chestnut about having "stopped beating his wife" I think Obama should be reminded of how unfairly McCain was criticized over THAT one.

I can't agree. McCain was clearly referring to a program, while Obama's remark was a STATED reference to McCain/Palin, right after she used the "lipstick" remark, AND note that he also chose to use the "old fish" remark.

Nope, it’s a Dem talking/joking point. Meant for Palin. Probably invented by a non-lipstick wearing female for Obama. Example:

I am so friggin' sick of hearing cards being used as a metaphore.

I certainly have never thought politics .. indeed the governing of a nation, millions of people .. as a game of cards.

(Unless all these witches and whoreloks (I don't care if it's mis-spelled .. I mean it as such ... ), are using Tarot cards.)

Candidates are saying words that are either good or bad .. right or wrong .. for America .... for me ... and I resent being part of a pot.

(BTW, I know nothing about Tarot except it has some creepy pictures with creepy (individual) interpretations.)

Meh. The context was fairly obvious. The crowd certainly got the inference. If he didn’t intend that, he belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Idiots for coming up with that line, and thinking, “hmmm... lipstick...pig...hmmm....lipstick...where have I heard that before... lipstick... oh well, I’ll just let it rip.”

He knew exactly what he was doing and who the message was intended for.

That said. We should do nothing. Let him keep stepping on his own mines.
The more he does this, the more desperate he appears.
