As someone else pointed out: The whole country knows that lipstick joke she told and thats why that crowd reacted the way they did.
True, but also everyone knows the saying about lipstick on a pig. Like I said...I know what it was in reference to, but it was done in such a way that they have deniability.
Funny you should say this :) My wife is out of town at a conference. I knew she hadn't heard about Obama's latest faux pas so I AIM'd her a little while ago. Nothing else was said about lipstick or Obama before this part. This was our conversation:
Me(8:23:30 PM): Have you heard of Obama's latest "gaffe"?
Her(8:23:53 PM): no what did he do this time
Me(8:24:05 PM): watch it and you tell me. Not long - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPd4yk0x-eg
Me(8:24:09 PM): from today
Her(8:25:47 PM): what a douche bag. so now he is calling palin a pig!!!!
Me(8:26:03 PM): Well, the audience certainly thought so

I think it's pretty evident what people will think of this at face value :-)
