My feeling is Obama truly didn’t mean to reference Palin, but I’d bet a paycheck his speechwritier knew what HE was doing in referencing this in the speech.
And I’m thrilled these “intellectuals” are so unaware of themselves.

Obama was using a hand mike and a townhall-type presentation. I doubt if he was giving a speech written for him.
That's naive. Of course obama knew what it meant and who it was aimed at. That's why he paused for the first laugh. The old pig saying is so old, people don't laugh at it. I bet obama suggested it to the speechwriter or ad-libbed it.
