"There's soon going to be a discussion in this country about automatic weapons," Franklin said. "I think people would agree having an AK-47 on the streets is something that needs to be regulated."

Let that "discussion" start with the fact that possession of automatic weapons by civilians was essentially banned by Federal law 74 years ago, Mr. Franklin.

Automatic weapons by civilians just requires the Class III stamp and signature(read more money) in most states.

Automatic weapons are actually quite easy to own.

You need a background check by a local LEO, you need to send fingerprint cards to the FBI. You need to send the serial number of the weapon you’re purchasing and $200 to the NFA branch of the ATF, and six months to a year later you will receive a tax stamp, like the kind liquor stores and bars get, and you’ll then be able to get the weapon.

The tax stamp has to be with the weapon when you take it shooting, and if you travel with it you have to tell the AFT which states you’ll go to and when your arrival/departure dates are.

It’s actually quite easy though, there’s literally hundreds of thousands of full-auto weapons and many more silencers and short-barrel rifles in private hands.
